Yhonnie Scarce has been selected to participate in this year’s Installation Contemporary which takes place in conjunction with Sydney Contemporary.
One of the biggest highlights of the Fair, Installation Contemporary presents Australian and international artists, whose innovative and often site-specific installations range from the handcrafted to the digital.
Strontium – 90, 2016
Yhonnie Scarce’s work, which she describes as ‘politically motivated and emotionally driven’, references the on-going effects of colonisation on Aboriginal people. In ‘Strontium – 90’ Scarce returns to her birthplace in Woomera, South Australia, to investigate the British Atomic testing carried out in Maralinga area during the 1950s and 60’s and the effects radiation had on the local indigenous population.
