Nicole Kelly’s first exhibition at the gallery will showcase her stunning new paintings, which reflect the influences of her recent AADK Residency Program in Spain.
Kelly’s artistic practice examines relationship to place, being grounded in the landscape, the private interior, as well as drawing influence from naturalist literature. She develops her paintings in the studio from pen line drawings, filtering through memory, impressions, colours and moods of her environment.
‘Through my paintings, my desire is to walk a line between a literal reality and a poetic interpretation.’ (Nicole Kelly, 2016)
Kelly won the prestigious Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship in 2009, and has also been awarded the Manning Prize 2015, Glebe Youth Art Award 2013, Hazelhurst Gallery Local Artist Award 2011, Gruner Prize 2008 and Robert Le Gay Brereton Drawing Prize 2007. She has been a finalist in awards including the Wynne Prize, Redlands Art Prize, Mosman Art Prize, Black Swan Prize and the Portia Geach Memorial Award.
