Kirsten Coelho’s new work, which she created during the prestigious invitation-only Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Program at Tweed Regional Gallery is on at the gallery from 8 April – 14 August 2016.
In regard to her residency Coelho says, “Utilising the paintings and collections of Margaret Olley as a starting point for new work is both exciting and enticing. Olley had a rich and personal vision and portrayed objects in such a way that the objects themselves took on new meaning and visual power. In Olley’s paintings, the framing of objects in space elevates the everyday, inviting us to look again at the essential nature and details of objects in the worlds that surround us. This opportunity to see Olley’s works and her personal collection of objects first hand will enable me to engage with her vision and further build on an understanding of the way objects can be contextualised and perceived.”
