Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize: Winner

Chris Bond

1 Aug - 8 Oct 2013

Chris Bond has won the Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize 2013 for his work Viridian.

Constructed from linen, canvas and cardboard, his painting expands upon the tradition of realist painting by creating the illusion of a three dimensional object. The Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize is held biannually at the Bendigo Art Gallery in Victoria and has been running since 2003.

The judging panel for this year’s award comprised Natasha Bullock, curator of contemporary art at the Art Gallery of NSW; Michael Buxton, owner of the Michael Buxton Contemporary Australian Art Collection; Alexie Glass-Kantor, director of Gertrude Contemporary in Melbourne and Karen Quinlan, director of the Bendigo Art Gallery.

Bond’s winning work will join the Bendigo Art Gallery’s collection of contemporary art and he receives a $50,000 cash prize. The exhibition of finalists in the Prize will run at the Bendigo Art Gallery until 8 October.
