Created in 2003 and 2004, funded by Arts Victoria, this is a multi-projection video installation inspired by the southern coastline at Warrnambool. This work is a collaboration with the local Gunditjmara Aboriginal dancers; Pete Brownstein of Riverstone Multimedia; Steve Bell, composer and Bruce Parker and Joanne Haslam of Sharp Edge Photography on stills. Other performers were Gretel Taylor, Melissa’s Hip Hop Dance School from Warrnambool plus 40 students from Victoria University, Melbourne. This work is about the relationship to place from different perspectives. It embraces aspects of local history such as the “ghosts” from the 28 shipwrecks and includes subtle references to current refugees seeking asylum in Australia. This work is poetic and political.
