Artist In Residence: Australian Tapestry Workshop

The ATW offers artists and craftspeople working with textiles the chance to broaden their practice in our world-renowned residency program. Each year, Artists in Residence immerse themselves in our vibrant studio – exchanging knowledge and skills with our tapestry weavers and engaging with local communities through the exhibition of their works, artist talks and workshops.

These artists are eager to connect with the local art, textile, and design community in the City of Port Phillip and wider Melbourne. They will be available to share their expertise through discussions with visitors, schools, and community groups, as well as by offering workshops and open studio talks. We invite you to reach out and explore opportunities to collaborate or engage with them during their residencies.

During his residency, Farley will merge digital and material practices, translating AI-generated and 3D-rendered compositions into woven form. Incorporating video works of rendered landscapes, he aims to locate the midpoint between the hyper-fake and the hyper-real – where simulated worlds and tactile craft converge into something both human and uncanny.

Join Jackson for ‘Jackson’s Self-Help Course: make art with AI, badly and on purpose’, an artist-led workshop exploring AI as an accidental studio assistant. Bring an image, object or memory and experiment with creative failure, distortion and unexpected outcomes.

No technical or textile experience needed. Just bring a phone or laptop and your curiosity.
