Michael Cook’s work has been curated into Mapping Australia: Country Cartography at the Museum of Contemporary Aboriginal art in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
The exhibition brings together different worlds, eras and viewpoints – the way European explorers mapped Australia, and the paintings of Australian Indigenous artists of this continent, which map the land and depict the deep connection of the Aboriginal population with it.
Alongside the VOC’s historical maps of Australia’s coast, drawn by Dutch cartographers in the 17th and 18th centuries, are striking depictions of the country in contemporary art works of Aboriginal artists that are derived from thousands of years of traditions.
This exhibition runs 4 October – 15 January. For more information click here.
